Aidan Stone player profile
Port Vale FC signed former Mansfield Town goalkeeper Aidan Stone in June 2021.
At the time of the signing, manager Darrell Clarke said: “We are pleased to have secured Aidan’s future at Vale Park and expect to have a healthy dose of competition now in the goalkeeping positions, following Lucas’ (Covolan) arrival earlier in the week. Another permanent addition to the goalkeeping ranks was preferred over a loan move and developing another club’s player, with 21-year-old Aidan most well-suited to the club’s requirements.
“He is a young, promising goalkeeper and joins with EFL experience. We are confident Ronnie will be able to continue Aidan’s professional development at the club.”
Stone made his debut for the club coming on as a sub in the opening game after Lucas Covolan was sent-off. He was largely an understudy to Covolan and then loanee Tomas Holy before breaking through in the final third of the season to become the club’s number one. He played a key role in Vale’s successful play-off campaign, saving a crucial spot-kick in the semi-final win over Swindon Town and keeping a clean sheet in the final at Wembley as Vale reached League One. His contract was extended until 2024 in the summer of 2022.
He once again started his second season as an understudy before regaining his first-team spot in the second-half of the campaign. He then left for Notts County in the summer of 2023 as he sought regular first-team football.
