Any more details on the players?
Goalkeeper Reece Charles-Cook was released by Macclesfield Town at the end of the season. The 26 year-old is well-known to Port Vale fans after a superb performance for Coventry City in 2016.
Defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival was released by Carlisle United at the end of the season. The 33 year-old was restricted to just 19 appearances last season but has a career appearance tally of over 450 League games.
Any legs in the rumours?
It’s frankly unlikely but it has to be said that Vale are pontentially looking for players in those two positions. However, would Charles-Cook want to be back-up to undisputed number one Scott Brown? If (as widely expected) Nathan Smith moves on, surely John Askey will look for a young replacement as adding 33 year-old Knight-Percival to veterans Shaun Brisley and Leon Legge would give Vale an ageing defence.
Any other rumours?
There’s an awful lot of Twitter accounts firing out rumours and nearly all of them never take place. Earlier this week, Twitter account EFLZone claims that Port Vale were interested in signing West Ham striker Dapo Afolayan on loan and Burton Albion midfielder Ethan Vale. Earlier this month, Twitter account Unofficial Vale linked Vale to two non-league Welsh signings but they were swiftly denied by the club.
These transfer links are unlikely to be the last over the summer but only time will tell if the rumours have any legs in them. However, the Vale are likely to wait and see which players who have been offered contracts accept them them before they make any moves in the transfer market.
