Port Vale set to add central defender after Nathan Smith injury
Port Vale look certain to try and add a central defender to their squad after Nathan Smith was injured during Saturday’s 3-0 away defeat to Swindon.
Smith, one of Vale’s best performers was forced off after 27 minutes and replaced by Shaun Brisley.
After the match, Valiants manager told the media that Smith had suffered a hamstring injury and could be ruled out for up to a month.
The injury leaves Vale short of defensive cover. Brisley and Leon Legge remain the only available central defenders with Kieran Kennedy on loan to Wrexham until the end of the season and Adam Crookes still recovering from injury.
A statement on the official Wrexham website claims that Kennedy does have a recall clause in his loan agreement so that could be one option for Askey but that would probably only happen should Vale not be able to add a new face before Friday’s transfer deadline.
