Vintage programme: read Norwich versus Port Vale from 1950
We take a leaf through the pages of a programme from Port Vale’s 1950-1951 season and a trip to Norwich.
About this match
This is the very first match of the 1950-1951 season. Played in front of 27,288 supporters it finished in a 2-0 victory for the home side. However, this game was a precurser for the most exciting event in decades as in their next fixture, Vale opened their new Vale Park stadium.
The Valiants gained their revenge in the return fixture as they won 2-1 thanks to a double by Len Barber. At the end of the season the Canaries finished second in the Third Division South although sadly an expansion of the league meant only one club was promoted. Meanwhile Vale finished mid-table in twelfth place.
