I couldn’t see us conceding today – John Askey on win over Milton Keynes
Port Vale manager John Askey has praised the defensive display after the impressive FA Cup first round win over Mk Dons.
Vale won 1-0 to progress to the second round.
I couldn’t see us conceding today, the longer the game went on they were keeping the ball but never really getting behind us or nobody’s getting the headers on the crosses, it’s really pleasing…
Askey told the official Port Vale website: “Now the players are used to playing together, it takes time the way that we play but at the moment its coming together, and if you keep clean sheets then you’ve always got a chance, that’s what we’ve done again today.
“I couldn’t see us conceding today, the longer the game went on they were keeping the ball but never really getting behind us or nobody’s getting the headers on the crosses, it’s really pleasing, we’re a lot more calmer when the ball comes into the box so long may it continue.
“It’s been a bonus Monty coming in, and you rightly say nobody goes past him, it’s really difficult because he’s so quick and he recovers quickly. The timing of his tackles have been good as well which has surprised me, he looks a good player in that position and perhaps it’s no coincidence that he’s come in and we’re keeping clean sheets.”
