Haven’t been up to the standard – Port Vale striker’s honest assessment of recent form
PortVale forward Richie Bennett offered an honest appraisal of his recent form by admitting he needs to “get my head down and keep improving.”
Bennett had a strong start to the season and has already reached five goals this season. He was arguably unlucky not to score in Vale’s last match against his former club Carlisle United but the 28 year-old says he is determine to work hard and improve.
I thought I started off well, last few performances probably haven’t been up to the standard that I’ve been at, but that’s something that I’m willing to get my head down and keep improving…
Bennett told the official Port Vale website: “I probably got in the side a bit earlier than I thought to be honest. I thought I started off well, last few performances probably haven’t been up to the standard that I’ve been at, but that’s something that I’m willing to get my head down and keep improving.
“I’ll do as much as I can whilst I’m on the pitch, I’ll always work as hard as I can and do my best for the team. Tom Pope and Mark Cullen are all ready to step in, and Jordan , the gaffer has got attacking options how are all doing brilliant. I know that even though I’m not scoring goals, I’ve got to give something else to the team that’s keeping me in the side.
“I hope I bring something different to the side that’s helping us get results at the minute, that’s what I’m concentrating on. I can improve, I know that, and that’s what I’m trying to do every day.”
