Port Vale forwards push their claims with goals for the reserves
Port Vale forwards Rhys Browne and Jordan Archer made their case for a first-team place with goals for Port Vale’s reserve team.
Both Browne and Archer played for the reserves in their 3-1 win over Scunthorpe United on Tuesday afternoon. A strong Vale side which included first-teamers Jonny Maddison, Kieran Kennedy and Shaun Brisley was captained by Ryan Lloyd.
The Valiants took the lead through central defender Kennedy before goals from Archer and Browne made the result secure.
Archer hit the bar in the first-half before racing clear in the 47th minute to double Vale’s lead.
Twelve minutes later, Browne struck a spectacular third goal for Vale as John Askey’s side won their opening Central League Cup fixture comfortably.
The performances of Browne and Archer will certainly give Askey food for thought. Following the 3-1 win over Morecambe, the Vale boss is unlikely to change his starting XI for the trip to Macclesfield, but after this display he will know he has potentially got game changers on the Vale bench on Saturday.
Port Vale Reserves: Maddison, Barratt, Kennedy, Brisley, Campbell-Gordon, Green-Birch, Lloyd, Hurst (Ajose), Browne (Campbell), Archer, Chimenes (Hickson)
