About the game
This match took place in the 1954-55 season. Following the Vale’s FA Cup third round win over West Ham (which we featured in this feature here) the Valiants were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round. This match took place on the 24th January 1955 and finished Spurs 4-2 Port Vale. The scorer for the Valiants was Ken Griffiths with a brace. It was played in front of 50,684 fans.

You may be interest to note the shirt colours of the Spurs, a rare occurrence of the team wearing blue and white stripes. I’ve no idea why as there would not be a clash of colours, as you probably know Tottenham regular kit was white shirt dark blue shorts
