John Askey thinks move for former Crewe keeper is unlikely
Port Vale manager John Askey says a move for released Crewe keeper Ben Garrett is somewhat unlikely.
Garrett, 25, left the Alex after missing a deadline to sign a new deal. He was highly rated by Vale’s rivals and impressed in the fixture at Vale Park last season.
Ben is looking for first-team football and, when our first team keeper has done as well as he has, then he is probably going to be a bit wary of that…
The Valiants are looking for a replacement for Sam Hornby who has left to join Bradford City.
However, Askey feels the 25 year-old will be looking for first-team football, something that may be difficult at Vale due to the form of first-choice Scott Brown.
Askey told the Sentinel newspaper: “I would , but Ben is looking for first-team football and, when our first team keeper has done as well as he has, then he is probably going to be a bit wary of that… He is a good goalkeeper. That is the type we would love to bring in.”
