Five iconic Port Vale FC shirts?
A look at some memorable Port Vale shirts over the years. Are these five among your favourites?
Port Vale have worn their famous white and black kits since 1921. Prior to the changeover, Port Vale had worn a variety of colors including white and red. The club even wore a white and red striped shirt similar to their regional rivals Stoke City at one time. Port Vale will play in League Two once again this season and it will be their 109th season in the Football League. Supporters can follow Port Vale all season long with William Hill and wager on the Valiants as they fight for promotion.
Since changing to black and white kits, Port Vale have worn some iconic shirts. These five shirts could be some of Port Vale’s most iconic since shifting to black and white nearly 100 years ago.
- Port Vale BLK 2018-19
Port Vale’s 2018-19 kit makes the list simply due to the shirt being the club’s best-selling in over 25 years. Produced by BLK, the shirt was predominately white with a black and amber vertical stripe down the right front portion. The top was combined with black shirts and black socks which was a nice alternative to the all-white ensemble from the previous season.
- Port Vale Vandanel 2008-10
Vandanel supplied Port Vale’s kits from 2003 to 2012. Their best offering came during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. The club opted for a classic vertically striped kit ala Juventus and Newcastle United. The top had subtle amber stripes on the shoulders as black socks and shorts were combined with it. The black and white vertically striped shirt was never worn previously to the 2008 season and it hasn’t been worn since 2010. It could be a look Port Vale bring back in the future.
- Port Vale Hobott 1982-84
The 1980s were a time of constant change for Port Vale. The club modified its badge and achieved promotion three times during the decade. Port Vale’s kit from 1982 to 1984 was the best of their offering during the decade. It featured a large V on the neck and chest reminiscent of French team Bordeaux. The team’s black shorts were coupled with white socks for a stunning look.
- Port Vale Errea 2016-17
Errea produced Port Vale’s 2016-17 kit and hit a home run with it. The shirt featured a white body and sleeves with large black and amber horizontal stripes across the chest and shoulders. The shirt was paired with black shorts and socks. Despite looking great on the players, the 2016-17 Errea kit couldn’t inspire them on the pitch. Port Vale was relegated to League Two during the season.
- Port Vale Valiants Leisure 1991-93
Port Vale’s kits from 1991 to 1993 were a product of the time. The shirt was white with grey/faded black marks. Although it was produced by Valiants Leisure, the shirt wouldn’t have been out of place as a top made by Umbro in the early 1990s. Is it the best Port Vale shirt? It is at least a great talking point.
