Former Valiants: striker released as clubs announce retained lists
Former Port Vale striker JJ Hooper has been released by League Two rivals Grimsby Town.
After the closing fixtures of the season, clubs have begun to issue their retained lists and Hooper is one of four players to be released.
Hooper was signed by owner Norman Smurthwaite, beating Cheltenham Town to the signature of the then Havant and Waterlooville striker. Vale were asked to pay £8,400 by a tribunal.
However, after a bright start he drifted out of the picture and was released in 2017 when he joined Grimsby.
Another former Port Vale player, loanee Mitch Clark has also been released by his parent club Aston Villa.
