Port Vale owner denies interest in buying Notts County
Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite says he has “no intention” of buying League Two rivals Notts County.
The Nottingham Post newspaper claimed that Smurthwaite was one of three interested parties but the Vale owner told the Stoke Sentinel the reports were wrong.
Smurthwaite said: “I live close to the club and I have been watching some games because it was felt I shouldn’t go to home games at Port Vale because it gives them a security headache.
“I will be there again this Saturday watching a game of football and I will be going to MK Dons on the last game of the season to watch them play Mansfield so hopefully they get promoted.
I have no intention of making an offer for Notts County, but that doesn’t say I won’t go and watch a bit of football there.”
