Top-scorer Tom Pope ready to return to action

Port Vale talisman and top-scorer Tom Pope is expected to be fit enough to be considered for the Valiants’ next fixture.

Vale take on Northampton Town on Saturday and Pope is now considered fit enough to be in contention for a starting place.

Manager John Askey has been carefully managing his veteran striker saying that he would not be considered until 100% fit.

Askey told the official Port Vale website: “We’re hoping Tom has fully recovered. He’s trained Monday, he’s trained today, and with that, if he doesn’t get any reaction, he will be in contention this Saturday.”

Pope has not featured since the 0-0 draw with Notts County in March and the forward hasn’t scored since the 8th January.

The striker’s path to the first-team may be blocked by Ricky Miller who has managed two goals in four starts since replacing Pope. However, Pope offers proven goalscoring ability with eleven goals in 34 appearances and his next goal for the club will mark a century of goals in Vale colours.
