Port Vale add Man Utd youngster to their squad
Port Vale sign Callum Whelan: the Valiants have confirmed the loan signing of Manchester United midfielder Callum Whelan.
The transfer has taken place despite the club being without a manager following the departure of Neil Aspin earlier in the month.
An official Port Vale FC club statement confirmed the move:
Port Vale are delighted to announce the signing of Manchester United Under 23s midfielder Callum Whelan on loan until the end of the season.
This will be the 20 year old’s first bite at the cherry at a football league club having been at the Red Devils since he was just six years old.
A talented midfield operator who is perhaps best utilised in the middle, and one of the three players shortlisted for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2017.
Whelan is one of United’s many homegrown talents, and he has some unique trophy-winning experience to his name. In January 2017, he went in goal in the Sparkasse & VGH International Cup, due to an injury to Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui, and was the star of the shoot-out as the Reds beat Hannover in the final.
Whelan will link up and meet his new teammates tomorrow.
