Port Vale defender says patience has paid off
Port Vale defender Theo Vassell says he’s had to “bide my time” but he’s determined to keep his place in the starting eleven.
Vassell broke into first-team contention after a strong display against Burton Albion in the Checkatrade Trophy and has now started four games in a row.
Every player is fighting for a place and only eleven can play, so it’s up to me to keep doing what I’ve been doing…
He told the official Port Vale website: “I’ve had to be patient and bide my time, but my time has come and I got into the team. I then had to take my chance and put in a good performance, but that’s what I’ve done so far and hopefully I can continue doing that.
“Every player is fighting for a place and only eleven can play, so it’s up to me to keep doing what I’ve been doing to give my all in games and in training.
“My primary position is at centre-back, but I don’t mind where I am on the pitch. I just play the game and get through it to do my job no matter where I feature, whether that is left-back, left wing, on the right or centre-back – I just go out there and do it.”
