Checkatrade Trophy tie sets record low Port Vale attendance
Port Vale have recorded a new record low crowd in the Checkatrade Trophy – the third time the Trophy has managed to achieve the unwelcome record.
Vale’s match against Middlesbrough B brought in just 554 fans – lower than the 610 who watched the previous week’s Checkatrade game against Burton (which was a club record for just seven days).
It is the second season in a row that a Checkatrade Trophy clash has resulted in a new record low crowd – which is a strong indication of the esteem (or lack of it) in which Vale supporters hold the discredited tournament
Last season’s clash against Newcastle’s B side (with B sides being one of the reasons the competition has lost credibility) saw just 824 attend the fixture.
