Port Vale coach says squad players have to do better
Port Vale coach Mick Ede says the performance of squad players “wasn’t good enough” as Vale reserves lost to Morecambe.
Vale went down to a heavy 4-2 defeat despite naming nine senior players in their starting line-up.
There is a lot of frustration in the dressing room because they are senior pros and they have to do better…
After the game Ede told the Sentinel newspaper: “There is a lot of frustration in the dressing room because they are senior pros and they have to do better.
“That is what I have told them. It is probably one of the most experienced squads we have put out there. But overall it wasn’t good enough.
“We had a more senior side on the pitch and you expect them to move the ball with composure and with trust in each other. But at times we were going sideways and backwards, but not well enough, when we could have gone forwards.
“The opportunities we had to play forward were unbelievable, but we just kept turning it down. That’s not what we want as a football club and it is certainly not what the gaffer wants us to do and the lads know that. They wanted to do their own thing a little bit too much in the first half.
“The positives were probably that Dan Turner has done all right and taken his goal well and I thought Ben Whitfield looked bright and scored with a great strike.”
