Vale youth vanquished after crazy Carlisle comeback
Port Vale’s youth team lost 6-5 to Carlisle’s youth team on Saturday in a game containing possibly one of the most dramatic closing scenes ever seen.
Playing at Carlisle in an EFL Youth Alliance north-west division game, Vale went 5-1 up and must have thought the win was in the bag. They were still leading 5-2 with just NINE minutes remaining when the home side launched their extraordinary comeback by scoring FOUR late goals.
United’s goals included two in stoppage time as they managed to pull off a 6-5 victory. To add to Vale’s agony the winning goal came in the dying seconds via a deflection.
After the game, Carlisle coach Gavin Skelton commented: “I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in a game like that.”
Neither have the Valiants.
This comeback arguably even tops QPR’s dramatic comeback in 1997 when they scored three times in the last five minutes to seal a 4-4 draw at Vale Park.
