Newcastle United will be the second side to field a B-side against Port Vale in the much derided Checkatrade Trophy.
The controversial decision to include U21 sides began last season with Derby County’s B-side facing the Valiants.
This season Newcastle’s B-side complete a group that also contains Crewe Alexandra and Oldham Athletic.
The first round of group games fixtures will be played on the week beginning August 28.
