Ryan Taylor: Ribeiro gave us a kick up the bum (and we needed it)
New signing Ryan Taylor says manager Bruno Ribeiro gave the side a “kick up the bum” at half-time during the game against Oxford United.
A woeful first-half display saw Vale going into the interval two goals down but Taylor said harsh words from the manager inspired the side’s second-half comeback.
The manager gave us a kick up the bum and we needed it and we got a justified draw in the end…
Taylor told the official Port Vale website: “It was a game of two halves. First half, I haven’t been here before I signed, but the lads said it was the worst first half they’ve had this season.
“In the second half we just seemed to click and when we got people in and around Cicilia and we could see the confidence in him and the team, because when it was going up to him it was sticking when in the first half it wasn’t.
“It was disappointing to go in 2-0 down, if we would have gone in 0-0 then we win the game.
“The manager gave us a kick up the bum and we needed it and we got a justified draw in the end.
“It’s early days, but I know the first half wasn’t good enough and second half it was a major improvement and the fans reacted to that.
“The difference of walking off at half time and then full time was like night and day and the fans rightly had a go at us at half time and then at the end they were cheering us with the draw.”
