Grant’s return could arrest Vale’s poor away form
The return of last season’s player of the year will be a welcome boost ahead of the trip to London Road.
If there was one common comment from the fans who attended Vale’s 4-1 defeat to Bury it was that the Valiants were badly missing anchorman Anthony Grant in midfield.
The good news for those intending to attend the Port Vale game against Peterborough is that Grant is set to resume in midfield after overcoming a hamstring injury.
Bruno Ribeiro confirmed the comeback telling the media that: “I think next week he will be okay.”
Vale’s central midfield looked distinctly threadbare against Bury as regular midfield partner Paulo Tavares was only fit enough to make the bench. However, Tavares could resume his partnership with Grant on Saturday while there is a further boost for the Vale midfield with the news that veteran Michael Brown is also on the comeback trail.
Brown won’t be in contention for the Posh game as he is still cautious about his injured knee. However, the assistant manager feels he could be back in the first-team squad in “a few weeks.”
A fit-again Brown will give Ribeiro even more welcome options in the midfield area and the return of these three experienced players will surely prevent another Bury scoreline. Port Vale’s travelling supporters will certainly hope so.
