Daily Mail: Jose Mourinho contacted Port Vale
National newspaper the Daily Mail suggests Man Utd boss spoke to Norman Smurthwaite to recommend a Portuguese coach.
The newspaper claims:
Jose Mourinho remarkably spent time on his first day as Manchester United manager trying to influence who becomes the next boss of lowly Port Vale.
Mourinho made contact last Friday with the chairman of the League One club, Norman Smurthwaite, who thought at first a friend was playing a joke on him. But Mourinho phoned back at the weekend to convince Smurthwaite he really was speaking to the Special One.
The former Chelsea boss proposed that Port Vale consider a Portuguese coach to replace Rob Page, who has joined Northampton — and in the process build a friendly relationship with Premier League giants United.
