Rival clubs could show interest in Port Vale striker
Manager Rob Page says that he expects several other clubs to show an interest in striker AJ Leitch-Smith.
The Valiants are in contract talks with their top-scorer but Rob Page told the Sentinel newspaper: “AJ was given an opportunity in the summer. I recognised that he had the quality and believed he could come in and score goals.
I recognised that he had the quality and believed he could come in and score goals…
“He took the gamble to come and he has scored them.He is obviously going to get a lot of interest from outside parties and other football clubs.
“It is about us wanting to keep him; we have shown our intent, we want to keep him and we have made an offer.”
Vale could still be favourites to secure the striker’s services. Leitch-Smith had a poor spell when he moved to Yeovil to play in a position (wing) that didn’t suit him and he will doubtless be aware that the Valiants’ faith in him as a player helped recover both his form and reputation.
It could be that the forward is happy to stay with a club that suits his style of play and in an area where he is close to family and friends.
