Alnwick praises rival Neal
Jak Alnwick says that competition for the goalkeeping shirt at Vale Park is “tough” but rival keeper Chris Neal has been “excellent” with him.
Alnwick joined the club just before the start of the season and was catapulted into the keeper’s shirt after an injury to Neal and youngster Sam Johnson had an unconvincing summer campaign. He subsequently signed a two and a half year contract with the club.
It is always tough being a keeper because there is one position but you always welcome competition…
Alnwick has started every match since then but with Neal back to full fitness, the goalkeeper is aware that the competition is heating up. He told the Sentinel: : “It is always tough being a keeper because there is one position but you always welcome competition because it makes you work harder to get that place.
“Everyone wants to be the number one so it is down to me to keep it and down to Chris to get the shirt. But Chris has been excellent with me and the young lads here as well.”
