Len Stephenson player profile:
Striker Len Stephenson was signed from Blackpool by Port Vale FC for a £5,000 fee in March 1955. Stephenson had spent the seven years of his career at Blackpool, scoring ten goals for his hometown club.
He scored once for the Valiants before the 1954-55 season ended. However, he impressed the following 1955-56 season as he finished as the club’s top scorer with 14 goals. However, he lost his place in January 1957 when Port Vale manager Freddie Steele left the club to be replaced by Norman Low. Stephenson scored just four times in twenty appearances during the 1956-57 season which saw the club slip into the Third Division.
In June 1957, following Port Vale’s relegation, Stephenson was transferred to Oldham Athletic for £1,065 but he only stayed at Boundary Park for a single season. He had a later spell with Witton Albion where he finished his playing career.
