Stan Trafford player profile:
Stan Trafford was a locally born forward who progressed through the Port Vale junior ranks. In 1964, he was handed a professional contract by the club’s then manager Freddie Steele.
Trafford made twelve appearances for the Valiants in the 1964-65 season after making his debut against Bristol City in October. Unfortunately, the local media reported that the player suffered barracking from the Vale crowd during the game. Undaunted, Trafford continue to feature in the team and also scored his only Port Vale goal in a 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic in March 1965.
However, the forward opted to leave the Valiants in January 1966 and signed for non-league Macclesfield Town where he had a brief playing spell making ten appearances.
In addition to his footballing career, Trafford was also a keen cricketer and he played several games for Staffordshire in the Minor Counties Championship between 1963 and 1976.
