Phil Griffiths player profile
Phil Griffiths was a Welsh midfielder who joined Port Vale FC in 1926 after a trial. He had walked to the club from Wales in order to take the trial.
He earned a contract with the club but only played sparingly in his first three seasons with the club. However, he rose to prominence in the 1929-30 season when he netted fourteen times from midfield as the club were crowned Third Division North champions.
His form for the Valiants was such that he attracted attention of other clubs and he was sold to Everton for a £6,000 fee in 1931. While at Everton he won a solitary Welsh International cap before moving on to spells at West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City.
Griffiths then returned to Port Vale in 1939 for a spell as a coach before the second World War brought a close to football for a while. Griffiths went into active service
