Smurthwaite: Port Vale missed out on Swindon striker
Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite has tweeted that Port Vale missed out on the signing of former Swindon top-scorer Andy Williams.
Williams, who hit 22 goals last season, joined Doncaster Rovers on a three-year contract on Friday and Smurthwaite tweeted:
Missed out on one today.@drfc_official gain our loss.Back to the drawing board
Doncaster were ironically also in the market for Vale’s Tom Pope who instead joined Bury.
Vale are looking for a replacement for Pope and the experienced Williams would have been seen as a perfect replacement. However, the Valiants will now have to look elsewhere their pursuit of Williams shows the club’s ambition this summer.
