Wembley play-off joy for Port Vale’s Chris Lines
Port Vale midfielder Chris Lines scored in the penalty shootout as Bristol Rovers returned to the Football League on Sunday.
Lines, who is on loan at his boyhood club from the Valiants played from the outset at Wembley stadium.
The Conference play-off final, which took place in front of a record crowd, of 47,000, went to penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra-time.
Lines took the first penalty kick and scored to put Rovers 1-0 up and when Pitman missed for Grmsby, Rovers triumphed 5-3 on penalties.
The match also featured two former Valiants. Darrell Clarke, who played for just one minute for the Valiants when on loan in 2005 managed Rovers while midfielder Scott Brown, who played for Vale in 2009, lined up for Grismby Town.
