Former Wales International goalkeeper Keith Jones was signed from Aston Villa by Port Vale in 1957. Jones had been signed to replace Valiants club legend Ray King who had left for Boston United.
The Welshman had begun his career with Aston Villa and had played 199 times before he departed to Burslem. He had also won a Wales International cap in 1949 when he had played in a game against Scotland at Hampden Park.
Jones was first-choice for Port Vale in the 1957-58 season making 46 appearances but by 1958 he lost his place to the emerging Ken Hancock and was transferred to Crewe Alexandra in April 1959. After fifty games for Crewe, he retired from football with a record of 317 senior appearances for his three clubs.
