Jimmy Todd player profile:
Jimmy Todd was a Northern Irish footballer who began his career at Ards. He moved to England where he was signed by Blackpool. He was then signed from Blackpool by Port Vale FC for a then club record fee in 1946. Described as a “terrier” like player Todd was apparently recommended to the club by former Blackpool team mate Stanley Matthews.
Todd was a regular in the Port Vale side in 1946-47 and was part of the side who finished as Third Division North runners-up in 1953. However, by this stage he had become more of a fringe player at the Valiants, making just 42 appearances in his final three seasons at the club.
After 146 appearances for the Valiants, he was given a free transfer in 1953 and moved on to non-league sides Wellington Town and Stafford Rangers. He had also played for Ireland in two Victory Internationals at the end of World War Two.
