Trevor Wood was a young goalkeeper who was signed by Port Vale FC on a free transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 1988.
He made a handful of appearances in his first couple of seasons as he understudied Vale first choice Mark Grew, However, in 1990-91 he started as first choice goalkeeper at the Valiants. He lost his place to Paul Musselwhite in 1991 and joined Walsall on a free transfer in 1993. He had made 49 senior appearances for the Valiants during his five year spell.
Wood earned a Northern Ireland International cap while at Walsall and he later had spells at Hereford United and Irish side St Patricks Athletic. The goalkeeper then retired from playing in 2001 with a career total of 230 senior games.
