Born in Leek, the goalkeeper started his career with West Bromwich Albion before dropping into non-league football.

He was signed by Jackie Mudie in 1966 for a £2,000 sum from Oswestry Town.

He was ever-present in 1967-68 and was set for a £15,000 move to Huddersfield but Sharratt turned the move down.

In 1968 he suffered a knee injury and when he returned he was largely the deputy to Keith Ball.

He left the club on the expiration of his contract in 1972.
