Richard Eyre was a skilful right winger who progressed through the Port Vale junior ranks to earn his first professional contract in 1997. He made his Valiants first-team debut as a substitute in a game against Ipswich Town in December 1997.
He made a further eleven appearances during the 1998-99 season as he became a regular starter once Brian Horton had replaced John Rudge as the Port Vale manager. He scored his only senior goal for the club in a 3-2 win over Sheffield United in November 1999.
However, he made just eight appearances in the 2000-2001 and was released by Port Vale at the end of the season. He had made 53 appearances and scored once for the Valiants.
After leaving the Valiants, he spent a season at Macclesfield Town before moving into the non-league with spells at Hyde United, Kidsgrove Athletic, Leek Town and Congleton Town.
