Oliver Heald player profile:
Young Canadian striker Oliver Heald arrived at Port Vale FC on trial in September 1993 and did enough to persuade manager John Rudge to offer him a two year contract. Heald had previously played for Norvan FC, a side based in Canada’s North Vancouver league.
However, in his two year spell at the club the striker failed to break through to the first-team and as a result was unable to make a senior appearance for the Valiants. He was subsequently released by the Vale at the conclusion of the 1994-95 season.
He later moved on to Third Division side Scarborough for a brief spell during the 1995-96 season (fourteen appearances and two goals) before returning to Canada for an eight year spell where he appeared for Vancouver 86ers, Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps. He also won the Western Conference championship with the Whitecaps in 2000. He finally retired from playing in 2004.
