Marc Richards

Marc Richards

Time at club: 2007-2012

Appearances: 202

Goals: 75

The prolific forward was signed on a free transfer from Barnsley in 2006. He struggled with injuries during his first season and the side was relegated. He refused a £100,000 bid from Cheltenham for him (a result of a relegation release clause) to stay with the club and was top-scorer for four consecutive seasons (2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-12).

He was also made club captain on numerous occasions and the first player to score twenty goals in two consecutive seasons for more than ten years. Perhaps his most productive spell was in partnership with namesake Justin Richards during the 2010-11 season when the pair scored 34 times (Marc 20 and Justin 14)

Richards turned down another transfer approach (this time from Carlisle) in 2010 but by 2012 with the club in administration he opted to leave and joined Chesterfield on a free transfer.
