Jeff Minton player profile:
Jeff Minton was a diminutive midfielder who was signed on a free transfer in 1999 by Port Vale manager Brian Horton.
Minton was signed from Brighton and Hove Albion, a club which Horton had previously been the manager of. Prior to that move, Minton had started his career with Tottenham Hotspur.
He scored four goals in the 1999-2000 season as Port Vale were relegated and he was one of four players who were transfer listed in December 2000 when the Vale lost to non-league Canvey Island in the FA Cup.
He joined Rotherham United in March 2001, ironically to provide cover for injured former Valiant Stewart Talbot. He then moved on to Leyton Orient before dropping into the non-league scene including a spell with Vale’s cup conquerors Canvey Island. He retired from playing in 2010 with a record of over five hundred senior appearances.
