Gary Ford player profile:
Energetic right winger Gary Ford had already made over 400 appearances for York City over a eight year spell before joining Port Vale from Leicester City in 1987. He was signed for a £35,000 fee and rapidly became a regular in the Vale first-team.
Ford was a member of the Vale side which defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup in 1988 and he went on to play a role in the club’s promotion the following season.
Ford’s spell was disrupted by injuries and after an Achilles problem he was loaned to Walsall for a spell in 1990. By 1991, he had faded from the first-team picture and was subsequently sold to Mansfield Town for £80,000 plus Kevin Kent. After his spell with Mansfield, he ended his career in the Norwegian leagues.
