Gareth Taylor was an experience and tall striker who began his career playing for Bristol Rovers. He then moved on to Crystal Palace for a £750,000 fee and was capped Internationally by Wales.
By the 1999-200o season, Taylor was at Manchester City but he was not a first-team regular. He subsequently joined Brian Horton’s Port Vale side on a month’s loan in January 2000. He played four games without scoring and returned to his parent club on the expiration of the loan.
Taylor continued to have a long career after his spell at Vale Park making stops at Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Tranmere Rovers and Wrexham among others. He retired from playing in 2012. He made a total of 642 senior appearances, scored 135 goals and earned fifteen International caps for Wales.
After his playing career, Taylor went on to manage the Manchester City women’s football team.
