Bob Blood player profile:
Bob Blood (or Bobby Blood as he was also known) was born in Buxton but the first World War interrupted his chances of a footballing career. When Blood injured his leg in action he appeared to have no chance of a professional career but he was undaunted spending hours building up his strength.
The hard work paid off as Blood was signed by Port Vale after a trial. Despite his war injury the striker possessed a ferocious shot and he scored twice on his debut against Clapton Orient. The forward proved to be a sensation in the 1919-20 season as he netted 25 times in just 30 games. The following season he continued his scoring feats with twenty goals in 26 games.
His form attracted the interest of other clubs and in February 1921 he was sold to West Bromwich Albion for a club record £4,000. He later had a spell with Stockport County before finishing his playing career in 1927. His overall tally stood at 87 goals in 157 games.
