Ally Brown player profile:
Ally Brown was a vastly experienced striker who was signed by Port Vale on a free transfer from Walsall in 1984. Brown had previously played for West Brom, Leicester City and Crystal Palace including a lengthy spell in the top-flight.
He was top-scorer in his first season at Vale Park with 21 goals in partnership upfront with youngster Robbie Earle. The combination scored forty goals in the 1984-85 season.
He was less prolific in his second season as injuries limited his appearances. He scored just six goals as the Valiants were promoted to the Third Division thanks in part to the emergence of young striker Andy Jones.
At the end of his second season, Brown retired from playing through injury. He finished his playing days with more than six hundred senior appearances and having scored 172 times.
