Rumour: Vale linked with defender?
A well-known football rumours website has linked Port Vale with a League Two centre-half and club captain.
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
The Valiants are known to be in the market for a central defender and according to football-rumours.co.uk Bristol Rovers defender Tom Parkes could fit the bill. Vale will need to pay a transfer fee for the player.
Parkes was voted League Two player of the month in February 2013 and ironically he suffered a bad injury on a previous visit to Vale Park – breaking his ankle in 2012.
Parkes, aged 22, is the club captain at Bristol Rovers and is unlikely to want to play in the Skrill Premier next season. He began his career at Leicester and now has over 100 first-team appearances under his belt.
Naturally, at this time of the season football agents are in full voice hyping their players up so this rumour does need to be treated with a large pinch of salt.
