The introduction to the book reads:
A story that will leave a warm glow with any underdog who likes the underdog to do well.
How a small club from the back streets of the Potteries made the football world sit up and take notice of their exploits.
The name of “Port Vale” was on the lips of every football fan as they continued on their cup run to the semi-finals.
One of their team was called up to the full England squad and the club was offered a blank cheque for the services of another.
The “Steele Curtain” became part of football folklore that season as Vale’s defence set many records on their way to the Third Division (North) Championship.”
The book has been dedicated to the memory of co-author Steve Askey who sadly passed away in September.
