Six years ago… Birchall makes Vale history
On this day in 2006, locally-born winger Chris Birchall made club history as he took part in a game at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.
Birchall was playing for Trinidad and Tobago as they took on Sweden in the finals of the 2006 World Cup.
By taking part, Birchall became the first-ever current Port Vale player to play in a World Cup finals event.
The Stone-born winger played all 90 minutes as the game ended in a goalless draw.
