Vale to offer Richards ‘best possible deal’
In-demand striker Marc Richards is set to be offered the “best possible” deal by the Valiants as they try and persuade the captain and top scorer to stay at Vale Park.
29 year-old Richards is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a number of other clubs. Since joining the Vale in 2007, Richards has scored 74 goals – taking him to ninth place in the club’s all-time goalscoring charts.
Assistant manager Mark Grew told the Sentinel: “The gaffer will offer Marc the best deal he possibly can to keep him.
“But if Championship or League One clubs come in for him, he’s a free agent and entitled to look at them.
“Losing Marc would be a massive loss because he’s scored around 20 goals for us for the last few years. To replace that contribution would be very difficult.
“I just hope he’s here next season because you need players of that calibre if you are going to get promoted.”
