Port Vale 1-0 Macclesfield Town
Adam Yates marked his hundredth league start for the Valiants with the winning goal as Port Vale recorded a win over Brian Horton’s Macclesfield Town.
Micky Adams named an unchanged side after Friday’s win over Aldershot, but with Clayton McDonald still a fitness doubt, Joe Davis was named on the bench.
Vale threatened from the off with Dodds hitting the crossbar, Richards having a shot cleared off the line and Pope having a goal disallowed for offside.
The Valiants continued to dominate play but without scoring the all important opening goal and Tom Pope headed wide from Marshall’s good delivery.
The visitors threatened in patches and did better after the break but Tomlinson was in good form in the Vale goal.
However, with fifteen minutes to go, Draper was brought down in the box and Macclesfield were awarded a penalty. But Donnelly made a complete hash of the spot-kick blazing it high over the bar.
Vale struck back as Pope hit the post and Adam Yates was on hand to net his second of the season and give Vale the lead. Yates was making his hundredth league start for Port Vale and his rare goal capped a perfect Easter weekend for the Valiants.
