Cult hero David Lowe

The first spell for David Lowe with Port Vale FC was in 1992 when he was loaned from Ipswich Town and scored twice in nine games.
He proved a popular signing and was almost certainly watched closely by Valiants manager John Rudge, who would have viewed him as a valuable long term signing.
An intelligent, ball-playing forward, Lowe played 575 times in a long career…
But at the end of the season, Lowe moved from Ipswich to Leicester City for £250,000, a price that was then out of Port Vale’s price range.
So John Rudge signed him on loan for a second spell in 1994 and this time he netted five times in nineteen games as he helped the Valiants to promotion.
A slightly built but intelligent, ball-playing forward, Lowe played 575 times during his long career, scoring 137 times.
Now a respected coach, he has had spells at Wigan Athletic and Derby County.
