    Queen of the south friendly

Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on this game please? I remember stopping in Dumfries and a lot of Vale fans were kicking a ball about on the pitch at half time.
What year was it please? Internet searches have drawn a blank.
    Cheers

    Hi,

Not a direct answer but this page may be useful. They make mention of a friendly against Vale but not the date. If you post the question there I reckon they may know:

Do let me know via PM if you get an answer as it may make an interesting feature for the front page.

    Cheers,

    Rob

I think I remember us playing QOTS in 1990. 4-0 maybe from memory?

It would have been the pre-season tour when John Jeffers, Kevin Finney and a couple of others sneaked out of the hotel for a few drinks, got caught by Rudgie sneaking back in and got sent home.

I was at the game and it was almost certainly in one of our first 3 years back in old Div 2 after promotion in '89. But which one, ?

Think you're spot on - July 1990 I'd say.....that was our family holiday that year, a few days in Scotland to take in some of the sights (and a couple of pre-season friendlies!). We actually stayed at the same base as the Vale squad, Stirling University, but never saw or heard any of them or the shenanigans that made the news.

Pretty sure the QOTS friendly was on a Saturday, and the Tuesday before we'd played another friendly against East Stirling (won 2-1?)

Wasn't it after that when the Seth fanzine nicknamed those that Rudge sent home 'The Four Mustgetbeers'?!

I was there. The game was played on August 4th 1990, and we won 2-1 through Darren Beckford and Gary Ford. No programmes were issued for the game.
