Looks a different player now – John Askey praises Port Vale summer signing
Port Vale manager John Askey says he is confident with the competition for places in Port Vale’s midfield.
The regular starters in midfield have been David Worrall, Tom Conlon and Luke Joyce.
However, the return of Manny Oyeleke from injury has boosted Askey’s options while loanee Jack Taylor and summer signing Callum Evans are also in contention.
Callum has had one or two games and he looks a different player now…
Evans has recovered from a shaky pre-season to stake a claim for a midfield place with Askey telling the media: “Callum has had one or two games and he looks a different player now. He came on against Newport and I know it was towards the end but again he looked comfortable in possession and he looks fit.”
Meanwhile, Askey commented on Taylor saying: “I thought he did well against Shrewsbury. He is positive in how he plays, he tries to play forward, he has a lot of energy and a good attitude as well. So, you would expect him to only get better playing more football. But he is there to provide competition for the rest of the midfield players and I am sure he will.”
