The Valiants opted to move to a new stadium after the club was evicted from their Old Recreation Ground stadium by the city council. The club opted for a site in Burslem and the new ground opened in 1950 having eventually cost £50,000, and boasting a capacity of 40,000 (360 seated). A club record 49,768 managed to squeeze in for a 1960 FA Cup fifth round fixture against Aston Villa. In the 1990s an extensive redevelopment of the stands was undertaken to comply with the recommendations of the Taylor report. In 2020, the Lorne Street stand’s seating was completed finally completing the work which begun in the early 1990’s. The current stadium holds 19,052 supporters and has four stands: Lorne Street opposite to the Railway Paddock, and the Bycars End facing the Hamil Road End.
